Today's reading is Galatians chapter 5.
In the first few chapters of Galatians, Paul tells his readers not to enslave themselves to the Old Testament laws. And this reminds me that I am so glad I am a believer living during the New Covenant. For I am not required to follow the many ceremonial laws and regulations of Moses.
We are free from these things, but we are not free to live selfishly.
Instead, Paul reminds us, in Galatians 5:13:
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
This is true freedom, to see ourselves as children of God. And as his children, we should desire to make our heavenly Father proud of us.
When you stop to reflect on it, do you think God is proud of the way you are living this week?
Sometimes I think our relationship with God is similar to Calvin's interaction with his father in this cartoon snippet below:
I look forward to talking with you again this Sunday as we consider how we can live in a way that pleases our Lord.
